What’s New in JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021
- Paper 1 will feature a total of 90 questions, 25 each from Physics, Chemistry, and Maths, according to the new JEE Main 2021 exam pattern. Only 75 questions must be answered by the candidates.
- Each topic will contain 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 10 numerical questions. 5 of the 10 numerical questions have optional responses.
- Negative marking does not apply to numerical questions.
- Paper 1 (B.Tech) in JEE Main 2021 will be worth 300 points, while paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Plan) will be worth 400 points each.
- JEE Main 2021 will be held in a total of 13 languages.

Detailed JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021 – Paper 1 (B.Tech/B.E.)
- The total number of questions asked – 90 questions, divided into 30 questions per section.
- A maximum number of questions to answer – 75 questions, divided into 25 questions per section.
- Nature of Question – 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) plus 10 numerical value-based questions (for each section)

- Exam Mode — This is a computer-based exam.
- In Section B, candidates have the option of answering 5 of the 10 numerical value answer based questions.
- Exam duration: 3 hours | 4 hours for applicants with a 40% impairment.
- Test Medium – All exam centres will provide question papers in Hindi and English. The exam will also be accessible in Gujarati for exam centres in Gujarat, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
- Marking Scheme –All questions in the Physics, Chemistry, and Maths sections have the same weighting. For each right response, four points will be awarded.

Detailed JEE Main Exam Pattern 2021 – Paper 2 (B.Arch)
- The test will be administered in two modes: computer-based and pen-and-paper.
- The B. Arch paper will have both objectives (online) and drawing questions, according to the JEE Main exam structure (offline).
- This paper serves as a prerequisite for entrance to undergraduate architectural programs.
Types of Questions/Sections/Parts:
- Part I: Mathematics consists of 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 10 numerical value-based questions.
- Part II – 50 MCQs Aptitude Test
- Part III – 2 Questions Drawing Test
- There were a total of 82 questions asked.
- The exam time is 3 hours.
- There are a total of 77 questions to be answered (Mathematics- 25; Aptitude- 50; Drawing- 2).

- Part I: Mathematics consists of 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and five numerical value-based questions.

JEE Main Total Marks
NTA has been the exam’s conducting body since 2019 and has been given the ability to establish and improve the JEE Main Exam Pattern.
- The total marks of the question paper were a significant adjustment implemented by NTA in 2021.
- Previously, JEE Main featured two papers: B.E/B.Tech, worth 360 points, and B. Arch/B. Planning, worth 390 points.
- B. Planning now has its own document, which was established this year. The total grades for each of the papers have also been changed. The B.E/B.Tech paper now has a point value of 300. The B. Architecture paper is worth 400 points, and the B. Planning paper is also worth 400 points.

Benefits of the New Exam Pattern
- According to NTA, pupils will benefit from the new pattern in the following ways.
- After their initial try, students will have further opportunities to enhance their exam grades. Their entire academic year will not be squandered.
- Students will acquire real-world experience taking the JEE Main test when they take it for the first time. They can then review their faults, make corrections, and retake the exam.
- Students do not need to be concerned about losing a year. Droppers would also not have to squander a full year.
- Students who are unable to take the exam owing to unforeseen circumstances do not need to wait a full year before taking the next exam. In the second session, they can take the test. Furthermore, only the best NTA results from the two examinations will be used to compile the merit list.

1. What are the changes in the JEE Main new exam pattern?
The JEE Main 2021 test pattern has been altered. There are now three papers available: BE/BTech (Paper 1), BArch (Paper 2A), and BPlan (Paper 3). (Paper 2B). This year, Paper 1 (BE/BTech) will include five optional questions. Paper 1 will consist of 90 questions, Paper 2 (BArch and BPlan) will consist of 82 questions, and Paper 3 (BArch and BPlan) will consist of 105 questions.
2. Is there negative marking in JEE Main?
Yes. In JEE Main, each wrong answer is penalized with a minus one mark. Unattempted questions and numerical value-based questions receive no negative grading.
